Encounter – Hosted by The Schutz Company
Will Schutz wrote that Encounter is “…understanding the self through encountering other people.” It is a mode of human relating based on openness, self-awareness, self-responsibility, awareness of the body, attention to feelings, and an emphasis on the here-and-now. Encounter focuses on removing blocks to being fully alive and creates conditions for a more satisfying use of personal capacities and for improving the quality of life.
Encounter is the essential core around which Will Schutz developed The Human Element®. With its origins in his pioneering work in T-groups at the National Training Laboratories (NTL) in Bethel, Maine and his experimental work at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, it is the ultimate personal growth and leadership experience.
A wide variety of methods are used in Encounter, including some borrowed from other approaches and many devised spontaneously to meet specific situations. It will deepen your skills in helping groups interact more effectively and create more effective work cultures and will greatly expand your capacity to help people in organizations through change.
Arrival is at dinner on Saturday, October 21. The Encounter itself is from 9am-12noon, 3pm-6pm, and 8pm-10pm each day from Sunday, October 22-24, and 9am-12noon on Wednesday, October 25. Lunch is provided on October 25.

We strongly recommend that you stay on-site. With the all-inclusive packages, you will spend more time with your peers and build relationships further as you journey through this program together. Due to the location of the program, it is logistically challenging to venture offsite for meals. Staying on-site allows you to have meals with the group and to be prompt for all programming times as scheduled. All participants must be fully present and engaged for all activities.
Please note that our package prices are only available on our website.
